Military-to-A&P Test Prep Course
This course provides streamlined training to get veteran aviation maintainers through FAA testing and into jobs.
Military maintainers have years of experience working on complex airframes and engines while adhering to stringent standards and operating procedures. My Brother’s Keeper offers the opportunity to translate that experience to the civilian aviation world by preparing for the FAA A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) certificate testing to become an Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT).
Course Overview
The course will include the studying, lectures and labs to prepare for and complete all the required A&P testing. You will be tested on the General, Airframe, and Powerplant sections. *If you only qualify for the Airframe or Powerplant rating, you will only complete General and that rating.
Each section has three tests:
- The Airman Knowledge Test (or written test), a computer-based multiple choice test
- The Oral Exam and Practical Exam (together, the O&P) taken in-person with an FAA Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME)
Schedule: The course will run for approximately two weeks with the first week being focused on preparing for and taking the three written tests; the rest of the class will be spent on labs and practice for the oral and practical exams.
This is an intensive, fast-paced class with full days of lectures and labs and several hours of self-study each evening.
May 21 – June 2 | Academics + Written Tests
June 3-4 | O&Ps
June 16 – 28 | Academics + Written Tests
June 29 – July 2 | O&Ps
Remote Study Option
Schedule: One month of guided academics requiring 1-2 hours of studying each night. The instructor will break down studying tasks and have scheduled one-on-one check-ins to ensure progress. The written exams will be completed prior to starting the in-person training.
The 14-day in-person class will be focused solely on preparing and taking the oral and practical exams.

Getting Started
We have explained the process below, but we are here to help you through the steps, so reach out to discuss as needed!
About the course
Our founder began his aviation career as a military heavy airlift aircraft mechanic and started this company to “pay it forward” for military maintainers. Translating military experience into an A&P certificate is challenging – our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible.
As a certificated FAA AMT, you will be ready to start a civilian aviation maintenance career in a market that is facing a shortage of qualified aviation mechanics. There is a need for FAA AMTs – if you have the qualifications, there are job opportunities for you!
We’re working to build partnerships with employers – if you are separating or retiring and seeking employment as an AMT, let us know and we’ll share the openings we know of.

Why Choose My Brother’s Keeper?
- You are already a maintainer. Now you need to be an FAA AMT. Let us help you navigate the transition.
- We don’t just prep you; we get you through the testing. On completion, you will be a certificated FAA AMT.
- Our instructors are former military maintainers with AMT experience. This course will be tailored to fill the holes you have without repeating skills you already have mastered.
